The Sweeney was the archetypal UK cop show, a 1970s classic that set the standard for tough, gritty police drama on television. The theme is a cult classic: a hard, brass-heavy 2/4 tune that deserves a place in any soundtrack collection. The A-side of this rare single, interestingly, is actually the closing theme from the show. It's a killer downtempo 4/4 version of the main theme, with sparse sax, Rhodes and drums, like a Hanged Man outtake. Highly recommended.
