Lalo Schifrin is one of the legends of late 20th century film music. But can he cut it in an intimate live situation, without the protection of a lush orchestra to cover any errors? This album is the best way to find out. Only issued in Argentina, this live recording from 1970 showcases Schifrin in a small quartet situation, accompanied by bass, guitar and drums. So what's the deal? Yes. He can cut it. Years of playing top-drawer jazz with Dizzy and in Paris pay off superbly in an amazing concert packed with hard, driving funk versions of The Cat, Bullitt (credited erroneously as Bullet) and Mannix as you've never heard them before. Breathtaking and packed with huge drums and Fender bass for the samplers. Superb.
