Carinhoso Marcio Montarroyos Som Livre SSIG 1028, 1973
Carinhoso album cover

This album is taken from the soundtrack to a Brazilian TV series from the early 70s. One side of the LP is taken up with compiled tracks from contemporaneous Brazilian popular music, and the other is original themes from the series. It's a great album for several reasons: the compiled tracks are excellent (and in some cases from rare or expensive original LPs), and the themes are also good. Best track is Marcos Valle's superb latin funk tune 'Mentira' - a sublime blend of wicked wah, cheeky Rhodes and a top-drawer horn riff, but everything on here is mellow summertime grooving material. Excellent!

Overall Rating: 4
