Here's a superb funk soundtrack obscurity from the blaxploitation genre. Who'd have thought that there's an undiscovered Johnny Pate production waiting to be found on 45? This is classic Pate, too: a dope, heavy, righteous groove (a hip hop style head-nodder) with great harmony vocals, tight brass and massive drums straight out of the Shaft In Africa songbook. The flip side is a nice-enough blatant rip-off of Honey Cone's hit 'Want Ads' of a couple of years before. Absolutely recommended - an essential, undiscovered classic blaxploitation soundtrack record. Props to our eastside correspondent for digging this one out!
